five things my grandfather nonchalantly told me in california

1. “I built your father a phonograph player when he was young. I used to work with sonar and radar, so it wasn’t that big of a deal.”

2. “The last time I cried was at your Bar Mitzvah.”

3. “When I was in the Navy my ship was torpedoed.”

4. “I hated living in New York – all the people and the yelling. One time I spent a week in the country and I cried when it was time to go back.”

5. “I don’t think I’ve ever been terrified of anything in my life.”

So how much did they buy your grandfather's story for?

I definitely would have cried at your Bar Mitzvah. I was sobbing at your wedding. Sensitive men unite (that's you too J!)

I'm guessing it has someting to do with your "ding a ling"?

Priceless quotes. That's the thing with old people from back in the day: they are/were better than us. We are like ersatz simulacra of them. (I think that's redundant.)

"I don't get it."

Your grandfather hated living in New York City because of the noise. Tim Robbins is starring in a movie called "Noise" about a man who hates living in New York City because of the noise. Your grandfather became a vigilante and started calling himself "The Rectifier." Tim Robbins is starring in a movie called "Noise" in which he becomes a vigilante and starts calling himself "The Rectifier." I don't think the similarities end there. Tim Robbins lives in California. Your grandfather lives in California. Tim Robbins has a grandson named Justin. Your grandfather has a grandson named Justin.
